Baptism

We love to celebrate faith and new life at SPS! The special way we mark this milestone is through baptism, and we encourage baptism for everyone new to faith, always.

Baptism is a profound and joyful celebration, open to people of all ages. It’s how we welcome individuals into God’s family and the Church. Whether you’re bringing your child to be baptised or exploring baptism for yourself, this is a powerful moment of faith and new beginnings.

For children, baptism is a time when parents, godparents, and the church community promise to guide them in the Christian faith. Water symbolises new life in Christ and being made part of His family. At SPS, we encourage baptism for families who are committed to raising their children in the Church.

For adults, baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus and a response to His call to follow Him. It’s a significant step in becoming part of the global family of believers.

If you would like to explore being baptised at SPS, please email us at hello@sps.church, and we’ll be delighted to guide you through the next steps.

Prayers of Thanksgiving

For families not yet ready for baptism or those exploring faith, the Church of England offers simple Prayers of Thanksgiving—a way to thank God for the gift of new life.

At SPS, while we encourage baptism first, we also aim to offer opportunities for this a couple of times a year, especially for families we meet through our community activities. We hope this will then lead to your child being baptised when you feel the time is right.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a special opportunity for those who are baptised to affirm their faith and take the next step in their journey with Jesus. It’s a service where you make a public declaration of your faith and commitment, and the Bishop prays for you to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

If you’d like to explore confirmation (which we generally facilitate once a year at our Cathedral), please email us at hello@sps.church, and we’ll get in touch with all the information you need.

📆 Upcoming Dates: 19 April 2025

Weddings at SPS

We love marriage!

Marriage is a sacred and joyful commitment that reflects the love of God and His faithfulness. It’s a celebration of love, partnership, and a shared journey of life and faith together. A church is so much more than simply a venue for your wedding—marrying in church is personal, meaningful, and spiritual.

If you are considering getting married at SPS, we recommend starting with the Church of England’s wedding guide, which provides lots of useful information and answers many common questions. Once you’re ready, email us at hello@sps.church, and someone will be in touch to guide you through the next steps.

Funerals at SPS

Funerals at SPS
A funeral is a chance to honour and say goodbye to a loved one while finding hope in God’s promises. Family and friends come together to grieve, give thanks for the life lived, and commend the person into God’s care.

Every Church of England funeral, whether large or small, carries a message of hope. Though there is sadness, the service also proclaims the hope of life after death through Jesus Christ.

If you are considering having a funeral or memorial service at SPS, please visit churchofenglandfunerals.org for helpful information. When you are ready, email us at hello@sps.church, and someone will be in touch to guide you through the process with sensitivity and care.
