Vision
Our vision is to make disciples, transform communities and plant churches.
We are passionate about being faithful to God's call to love. We want to see restoration in our community and for all to know the love of Jesus in their lives. In case you missed it, we love planting churches. It’s bold. It’s exciting.
We are a house of prayer, a place of fun and laughter, a family of friends and adventurers. We are a refuge of peace in the storm and a launchway into the new, the exciting and the undiscovered.
So no matter what your story, come explore with us and help write the next chapter of ours.
Story
Our story begins back in 1656 when Matthew Mead led a church plant from St Dunstan’s in Stepney and established a chapel of ease to bring the peace and love of Jesus to the men and women of the London docks.
Ever since, St Paul’s has had rich history of ‘landing and launching’. Caring for those who call East London home, as well as serving and sending out explorers and sailors like Captain Cook and harbouring great theologians like John Wesley. It’s a commission that hasn’t changed. It’s what we do.
Over the last 14 years, we have been sending out leaders to plant churches in our area and beyond. 10 church plants and partners so far… we’re excited for what our next decade of planting has in store.
Our history is still being written. Dive in and be part of it.
Team
We’re definitely an ‘all-hands-on-deck’ kind of place here, we don’t go to church, we are the church and we all get to join in and play our part. We all get to be ‘on team’. To find out more about how to get involved take a look at our Crews page.
Helping steer the ship we’ve got an amazing bunch of staff, interns, students and volunteers and we’d love to introduce them to you…
Place
Love Shadwell? We do! If you’ve never been, you should. It’s a vibrant and diverse community in the heart of east London, and we love where God has placed us in it.
Nestled between the Highway and the gorgeous London docks our church grounds host beautiful gardens, the stunning and historic SPS House, as well as our classic georgian church building with all the perks included.
Fancy a visit? Interested in hiring it out? Maybe you would love to rent an office space? Well the good news is you can!
Partners
We really value partnership, friendship and unity. From youth projects in the estates, to housing the homeless, we LOVE that we get to work with incredible organisations that seek to make a real difference.
We also continue to resource and learn from our Church Plants and partner with a wider network of churches across the UK.
The bottom line is we know we’re not alone and we’re thankful for all the amazing groups we get to be with and grow with. We’d love to tell you more about them…
Planting
A core pillar of our vision is to ‘Plant Churches’, which for us means to give away things that grow.
In the last 14 years we’ve launched leaders and teams to resource 10 new church plants and partnerships across East London and beyond.
A key part of our planting strategy revolves around raising up and releasing leaders. If you feel called to lead, we’d love to hear from you!
Some of our plants and partner churches:
St Peter’s Bethnal Green (2010), All Hallows Bow (2010), St Luke’s Millwall (2013), Christ Church Spitalfields (2014), St Matthias Canning Town (2016), Holy Trinity Sydenham (2017), Kindom Roots (2019), Pfarre Litchtental (2019), Poplar Church (2023), House of Prayer for East London (2023)
We love being part of the Church of England and the HTB Network.
Give
Giving is a part of our worship. We give back to God because he has first given so much to us. Monthly giving is vital to our mission as it enables us to plan impactful, long-term projects to reach more people with the love of Jesus. There are lots of ways to give financially into the life of our church.
